About Me

Growing up, I lived in a seaside town in the North-west of England.  I’ve always been a lover of books and had a passion for the power of words.  I remember sinking down into a beanbag in the corner of my bedroom when I was about 11 and read chapter after chapter of Watership Down. Stories bring laughter and tears and everything else in between. The opportunity to completely and silently escape and enter a new world when you open the pages of a book is like nothing else.

A lightbulb moment hit at the age of 13, in an English lesson at school; I knew from that moment that I wanted to write stories and share them with others. I dreamt about the notion that somebody somewhere would sit down and get comfy, ready to delve into one of my books and lose themselves in my stories.

In my late teens and early 20’s, an extended working holiday in Australia gave me the chance to explore the world and experience new adventures. The distinct contrast of the red deserts, lush rainforests and vivid coastlines are an amazing catalyst for the imagination and to increase the desire to explore. Another passion of mine -a love of animals- opened many doors of possibility and gave me the chance to meet so many weirdly fascinating and wonderful people. From that point on, a varied and successful career took me from working on horse studs to training yards, from vet nursing to marketing and from horse showing to equine welfare. My career has seen me teaching career-students in the equine industry and coaching Pony Club children and competition riders, An Equine Business degree and lots of other ‘bits of paper’, plus a variety of experiences led to me working in an educational role, teaching vocational students at university and college of Further Education. This then led to working in a traditional Education environment as a Primary School teacher. Before I knew it, I was back in the corner of a room, sat on a beanbag reading a book! Only this time, I was sharing the story with 30 little faces who hung on every word and experienced every bit of magic that we found together within those pages.

More changes and more adventures came my way. I married my husband who was a Sergeant Major in the British army. A move from the country to the big smoke, a job combining my love of animals and young people, managing and lecturing at a Landbased College and city farm and seeing children and young adults finding the one thing in their life that had finally managed to engage and focus them.

I now live in Suffolk with my husband, young son, our rescue collie and an ever-evolving selection of foster dogs.

After time out of work to bring up our youngest family member…and reading so many beautiful and engaging books with him, the time has come for me to commit to my dream and put pen to paper. I always thought the first book that I’d publish would be about horses or dogs, but my creativity has been well and truly been hi-jacked by some four-legged and feathery pilots.

As a writer, sometimes the story tells itself…

This is where the adventures take flight!
